What we do
Australian Childhood Trauma Group services are founded on a practical and evidenced based paradigm. We have an expert understanding of the issues facing infants, children, young people and families in out of home or alternative care and educational settings. We work with those who may be under psychological stress and may be experiencing behaviour management issues. We provide a wide range of support services, which are tailored to suit the needs of individual workers, programs and agencies.
Our primary focus is the professional support of workers (including case managers, teachers, residential workers and support staff) and carers (including parents, Foster, Kinship and Permanent Carers) through secondary consultation, training, professional supervision / coaching and debriefing.
The Case Assistance Program (CAP) or Case Assistance Program – Schools (CAP-S) provides the vehicle for this support. The CAP (or CAP-S) provides a wrap-around and holistic support approach in your advocacy and support of infants, children, young people and families who have complex needs and who may have experienced trauma and abuse or are displaying challenging behaviours.
This may include infants, children and adolescents who no longer reside with their biological family. The support offered is wide and varied and tailored to fit the needs of each client. These services are provided to the Government, Community Service Organisations (CSOs) and Education Sectors.
Our expert Consultant Psychologists and Allied Health Care Professionals have extensive experience and knowledge of childhood trauma, abuse and families.
Key aspects of our consultant work
- support workers and carers.
- validate and reassure case workers' and carers' experience and help them to understand their reactions to the stressful situations encountered in this challenging work.
- foster skills and understanding in the care of infants, children and young people who experience the effects of childhood abuse and trauma or have behaviour management issues.
- develop knowledge and skill bases in relation to families systems.
